Long distance sled dog racing is our main competitive focus, and SP Kennel supports two professional racing teams. Aliy Zirkle races the Red Team and Allen Moore races the Black Team. The goals and strategies for each team vary from race to race, so our dogs may run on either team at any time.
We strive to be good-will ambassadors for the sport of sled dog racing, balancing winning performance with exceptional sportsmanship, community outreach and advocacy for the amazing Alaskan Husky.
We are a "dog first" Kennel. We put the care and safety of our dogs above everything else, including competition results.
Our breeding program is highly selective, and SP Kennel remains small yet highly competitive. We breed only for the dogs we want, and as a result we have only about half the number of dogs of the other premier kennels with which we compete. We keep virtually every dog we breed for its entire racing career, then either keep them at the Kennel as retired/pet dogs for the rest of their lives or place them in situations particularly suited to their personalities.
Some who are "ready for a couch" we place in carefully screened and selected pet homes. Those who still want to run -- but not the number of miles involved in our racing program --- we place with highly qualified "dog first" recreational mushers world wide.
We make the right choices at the right times for all of our dogs!
After the racing season, we are ready to relax and enjoy the basics of dog mushing. We head up to the North Slope of Alaska with all of the Kennel's dogs: racers, yearlings and puppies. There we share our unique lifestyle with select guests by guiding adventure travel trips for Natural Extremes.
